In the US, 62% of new mothers would undergo plastic surgery after baby if cost weren't a factor. The "mommy makeover" has become increasingly popular over the last few years, thanks in part to celebrities and reality stars who have been unapologetic about undergoing plastic surgery to help them regain their figures after pregnancy. Tummy tucks, breast lifts, and liposuction have all become common procedures performed on women who are unhappy with how their bodies have changed after pregnancy.

The “post baby body” has become something of an obsession for society over the last decade or so. You can’t find a picture of a celebrity who has recently welcomed a child without multiple blogs, websites and entertainment magazines commenting on how quickly they’ve lost the baby weight. Terms like “bounce back” and “post baby body” have become part of everyday conversation. It’s almost become a competition for celebrities, models and reality stars to show off how quickly they’ve ‘bounced back’ after baby.

Not surprisingly, that effect has trickled down to regular women who feel more pressure than ever to lose the weight they gained during pregnancy at lightening speed. Which is why it’s even less surprising that a large number of women are considering plastic surgery after having children to help them lose that pesky baby weight.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) recently conducted a survey and found that 62% of new mothers would undergo plastic surgery after baby if cost weren’t a factor. The “mommy makeover” has become increasingly popular over the last few years, thanks in part to celebrities and reality stars who have been unapologetic about undergoing plastic surgery to help them regain their figures after pregnancy. Tummy tucks, breast lifts, and liposuction have all become common procedures performed on women who are unhappy with how their bodies have changed after pregnancy.

Anyone who has ever had a child knows that pregnancy can wreak havoc on a body. Regardless of whether you gain a lot of weight or a little, your body can change in ways you never would have expected during pregnancy. Sometimes plastic surgery is exactly what a woman needs to feel like her old self again.

Dr. Matthew Schulman, assistant professor of plastic surgery at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York said he’s seen an increase in women in their 30s and 40s coming in for procedures after having kids.

“The weight gain associated with pregnancy, the loosening of the skin and stretch marks, are a major concern for them,” said Dr. Schulman. “Hormonal changes, especially after a second child, can take their toll on the body. Breasts deflate, weight settles on the hips, and thighs and stretched stomach muscles won’t snap back through exercise,” he noted.

Many plastic surgeons are catering to women who have these concerns are offering “mommy makeover” bundle packages to help women who are struggling with their new bodies look and feel better about themselves.
